Dear Church Family,

It is wonderful to see so many of you at our Sunday morning service. Most of you are not wearing masks and talk about receiving your vaccine. New freedoms such as seeing a smile or hugging someone dear seem extra special. I am still wearing a mask in many places AND I am fully vaccinated. This seems to confuse people and that is not my intention. I wear a mask to honor those who are not yet vaccinated and want to attend our Sunday morning service. I wear a mask, so they are not alone. I will continue to wear mask while I am indoors among other people who I do not know. I will continue to wear any time I am in a crowd (indoors and outdoors) and social distancing is not possible. It’s my personal preference. Not a political or social statement. Simply a preference. Someday I may wake up and decide not to wear a mask any longer…and if it’s allowed then I will do so.

I have come to a metaphysical understanding of what masks, in the age of covid, has meant to me. It is much like an understanding of Truth. You understand a Truth in way that makes sense to you. And as life unfolds with challenges and insights the same Truth takes on a different meaning. You have a new sense about it. The mask represents to me a new understanding. Before Covid I did not believe that the power of germs could significantly alter my life. When Covid hit I saw how indiscriminately it attacked people. The mask became my new barrier to germs, much like affirmative prayer or a healthy diet and lifestyle. The mask represented loving myself, taking care of myself and loving life.

I do not use this interpretation for others – we all have our relationships with Covid and masks. I am sharing mine. And for now, I will continue to wear a mask inside around others, and sometimes outside as well.

And I look forward in the ongoing unfolding of God in our health and happiness!

Many blessings,
Pastor Robert
